Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and driven Founding Engineer to be the technical leader for our new AI-enabled SaaS product. This is a rare greenfield opportunity to architect, build, and own many areas of our data platform. 

We are looking for a strong generalist with the ability to translate our product vision into a secure, compliant, scalable, and production-ready system. You will act as the primary builder, while coordinating external specialized experts for deep topics like compliance certification.

This encompasses everything from pragmatic cloud architecture to the specialized data architecture required to power cutting-edge AI features. If you thrive on owning complex products, solving ambiguous problems, and coding with AI-speed, this role is for you.

What you will be doing

As the Founding Engineer for Platform & AI Foundations, you will be responsible for defining and executing the technical strategy across our entire stack. Key responsibilities include:

1. Data & Core Platform Ownership

• Architect, build, and own the core product platform, including all backend services and APIs.

• Design and implement a scalable data storage solution that handles both transactional data and the specialized needs of AI/ML data.

• Establish critical platform services such as User Management and comprehensive Data Governance policies.

• Design the system with "Security by Design" principles to prepare for future ISO/SOC 2 standards.

• Build first solutions on top of the platform yourself and mentor future team members in building them at scale.

2. AI Integration, Retrieval, and Action Enablement

• Own the integration of third-party AI capabilities via robust, low-latency SDKs and APIs.

• Establish a Model Context Protocol (MCP) or equivalent framework to enable LLMs to execute real-world actions and access live, structured data via defined API tools.

• Potentially design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities.

• Design AI capabilities using an "AI-First" workflow, leveraging modern coding assistants to accelerate development speed.

3. Infrastructure & Operations

• Establish a pragmatic, low-maintenance cloud foundation (utilizing PaaS or managed services where possible to move fast).

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable CI/CD build pipelines.

• Define the containerization strategy using Docker.

• Manage external DevOps consultants when deep infrastructure hardening or complex orchestration becomes necessary.

• Coordinate with external compliance auditors and security consultants to manage the certification process, ensuring the technical foundation supports these requirements without you having to be the sole compliance officer.

• Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.

Technical Qualifications

We are looking for technical generalist that ideally brings a broad range of technical skills:

• Experience & Seniority: 8+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in Software Engineering, with at least 3+ years operating at a Senior/Staff/Principal level.

• Core Engineering Stack Mastery: Deep proficiency in at least one modern backend language, like Python, NestJS or potentially Java.

• AI-Native Workflow: Proven ability to accelerate development using AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf, or GitHub Copilot).

• Cloud Infrastructure: Expertise in a major hyperscaler platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), covering networking, security, and access management.

• DevOps & Orchestration: Mastery of Docker and containerization.

• Data Architecture: Expert-level experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases, and ideally a track record implementing and operating a Vector Database for production use cases.

• AI Architecture: Proven experience implementing modern AI integration patterns like RAG and defining structured API/Tool interfaces for LLMs (MCP/Function Calling).

• Compliance: Foundational understanding of ISO and SOC 2 standards and certification processes.
